Abstract:

The present paper aims at the impact of surface water and quality of ground water on irrigation and heath of the human beings. The study was taken up in the area of  Medak district, Andra Pradesh, India . Surface water and ground water samples collected seasonally, during peak rainy and peak winter season  and were analyzed for pH, Electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), sodium (Na+), potassium (k+), Magnesium (Mg+2), Calcium(Ca+2), Carbonate (Co3-2) and bicarbonate (Hco-3), chloride (Cl-), sulphate Sulphate (So4-2), Nitrate (No3-) and fluoride (F-), the heavy metals analyzed were cadmium (Cd), Zinc (Zn), Nickel (Ni), Mangnese (Mn) and iron (Fe). US salinity Laboratory’s and Wilcox’s diagram, sodium Adsorption ratio (SAR), percent sodium % Na, residual sodium carbonate (RSC), used for evaluating the water quality for irrigation. Surface and ground water samples are not good for irrigation in both rainy and winter season.
