ABSTRACT

Women as we know have always been the victims of the customs, traditions, patriarchal social rules and stigmas prevalent in the society during various periods. This paper deals with the victimization of women encompassing both the Indian and Western theories and perceptions. It also aims to bring out the similarities and contrasts in the ways in which several male and female writers and novelists have portrayed women in their works.
